Bye Bye Plastic announces ‘Clean The Beat’ event to take place at ADE
The Bye Bye Plastic Foundation has announced details about the latest in its series of Clean The Beat events, set to take place at ADE in Amsterdam later this month.
The Foundation, co-founded by Vivie-Ann Bakos (aka BLOND:ISH) and Amsterdam-based Camille Guitteau, is on a global mission to eliminate single-use plastic from the music industry and surrounding communities. It launched its inaugural event in Miami earlier this year, where more than 100 participants, including 16 DJs, collected a massive 1,425 kilos of trash.
The latest event, which takes place on 14 October, will focus on cleaning up Amsterdam’s canals.
Since the organisation’s launch in 2020, Bye Bye Plastic has launched a number of social awareness campaigns including the ‘eco-rider’ initiative, which seeks to reduce plastic waste backstage, in green rooms, and in the DJ booth.
Clean The Beat: Amsterdam will take place alongside local cleanup organisation, Plastic Whale, which will use all PET plastic bottles collected during the cleanup process to be turned into ‘circular furniture’, an innovative furniture collection produced by Vepa.
Additional parties of the initiative include The Heartfeldt Foundation founded by Dutch DJ, Sam Feldt, which promotes a conscious lifestyle and supports local sustainability initiatives. Feldt will headline the musical element of the Clean The Beat event, alongside Dutch DJs such as Parallels and SHARE (aka Sharon Pieksma).
The music programme will take place on the canals while the cleanup is underway, and will be broadcast live on BLOND:ISH’s Abracadabra network on Twitch. The global stream will also seek to raise €5,000, to kick off Bye Bye Plastic’s ‘Road To A Million’ campaign – a crowdfunding effort to subsidise plastic-free trajectories for events & festivals and create more educational and awareness programmes.
Clean The Beat: Amsterdam will start at Waterkant and ending at Westerpark. The cleanup will take approximately two hours, followed by a ‘happy hour’ and a number of DJ sets. The event is limited to 100 participants, and tickets can be purchased here.
