Tiga reworks Lime’s 1983 synth-pop classic ‘Angel Eyes’

Tiga has unveiled a reworking of Lime’s synth-pop classic Angel Eyes, originally released in 1983, as part of a series of releases to mark the 40th anniversary of disco imprint Unidisc.

Following on from contributions from Claptone, Jacques Greene, Carl Cox and Alan Fitzpatrick, the latest release to commemorate the label’s anniversary, sees the Montreal producer deliver an atmospheric electro take on Angel Eyes, which hit #12 on the US Dance charts when it was first released.

Angel Eyes also became a staple on the nascent early-80s Chicago dance scene, serving as inspiration for the city’s producers to get into the studio and make dance music history.

Tiga’s remix, meanwhile, evokes memories of the early 2000s electroclash scene, which can’t be a bad thing in our book. You can buy/stream it here.

Over its four-decade-long lifetime, Unidisc has evolved and shifted with the times – formed in 1977 it quickly became one of Canada’s largest independent record labels, building a reputation around its Italo disco and hi-NRG output from artists such as Lime, France Joli, and Geraldine Hunt.

Lime, comprised of Montreal-based married couple Denis and Denyse LePage, released some 11 albums over a lengthy career, including their biggest single, Your Love, which topped the US Dance charts back in 1980. Since bursting on the scene in the late 90s, Tiga has remixed tracks from The xx, LCD Soundsystem, The Kills, Cabaret Voltaire and more.
