Umek to drop ‘Lanicor’ remixes, live performances as NFT
The electronic music industry’s embrace of the non-fungible token (NFT) universe continues with the news that techno producer Umek is set to launch an NFT next Friday that includes both live performances and exclusive remixes.
Starting on 29 April and running for 24 hours, Umek’s offer, located on the Blockparty marketplace, will include three remixes of his classic 1999 techno track Lanicor, one livestream performance and one live gig.
In other words, those that purchase the NFT will either purchase the rights to one of his original remixes, book him for an exclusive online event, or book him for a real-life live performance. The release has been organised by both Blockparty and music research and analytics platform Viberate, of which Umek is a founding partner.
“I was definitely inspired by NFTs and all the creative ways other artists went about them, so I developed my own concept: booking live gigs through NFTs,” Umek said in a press release.
“We’re all painfully aware that live events are returning very slowly, so this could be an opportunity for any artist, big or small, to make sure they have a booking waiting for them once live gigs are back in the picture.”
Last week, Beatport announced it was launching a music-based NFT, Music For Future Dancefloors, featuring tracks from Sasha, Charlotte de Witte, Boyz Noize, Pan-Pot, Sama’ Abdulhadi, Alignment, Third Son and others.
Elsewhere, artists such as Grimes, Don Diablo and Kygo have embraced NFTs, to launch music, art pieces, VIP tickets and other exclusive offers.
Umek’s NFT drop on Blockparty takes place on Thursday 29 April at 8pm UK time, 3pm EST.
