Listen to these incredible sets from Dublin’s ‘Springparty’, held at The Point in 2001

Following on from the sold-out Winterparty the previous November, and with Mosney Holiday Centre no longer available to host festivals, Pod, Mean Fiddler and Influx teamed up to host the first Springparty at The Point Theatre, Dublin, on this day in 2001 (7 April).

The event saw headline performances from Laurent Garnier, performing his Unreasonable Behaviour album live, as well as techno baron Dave Clarke and the legendary Carl Cox, who went on to play Timewarp in Mannheim the same night… fair play. Johnny Moy and DJ C1 completed the main room lineup.

Room two, styled as an ‘amnient/chillout’ space, featured no less a lineup than A Guy Called Gerald, Andy Votel and DJ Wool, aka former Irish DMC Mixing Champion Glen Brady.

As former Mean Fiddler promoter Mick O’Keeffe put it on Facebook, it was an “an amazing night with all 3 techno legends at the very top of their game. I pulled Johnny Moy back on stage after his stage dive during Carl’s set.” Now that must have been a sight… 🙂

Not bad for 31 Irish punts… i.e. just under €40.

The craic, permeated with the usual array of Mitsubishi-bedecked tricolours, was 90. Here are a handful of sets from the night:
