Daft Punk, Aphex Twin, Radiohead, Philip Glass and more get the Third Son treatment on new album ‘Retrograde’
London-based producer Third Son has had a busy lockdown period – last year, he unveiled the album 20 Days, which was recorded, mixed, mastered and released in less than three weeks – and he’s followed that up with a collection of tracks that inspired his musical journey to date.
Kicking off with his take on Boards Of Canada’s Roygbiv, the album includes re-imaginings of tracks by Radiohead (Everything In Its Right Place), Philip Glass (Metamorphosis 1), Daft Punk (Giorgio By Moroder), Moby (Porcelain), Aphex Twin (Avril 14th), Brian Eno (An Ending – Ascent) and many more.
The album is due to land on 4 June on Polymath, and was produced in Third Son’s home studio in London.
“Over the last year I’ve been listening to key music from artists I’ve always gone back to over the years,” he said. “The songs and pieces that still grab me after 100 listens. I slowly made my own interpretations, which kept me occupied during the drudgery of lockdown.
“We all need a project. I ended up with something for all settings, the sitting on the floor in the lounge listen, the kitchen disco listen and even an optimistic club listen.”
