Make Aoife NicCanna’s ‘Folklore From The Dancefloor’ your essential bank holiday listening

We might be nearing the end of the Phase 1 lockdown process, but it will likely be a while before we all get to meet up on the dancefloor.

Thankfully, we all have plenty of good memories to share, and a few years back, Aoife NicCanna put together an excellent radio documentary series that captured several of them.

Folklore From The Dancefloor was first broadcast on Near FM in 2013, and examines the evolution of Ireland’s club scene from the disco inferno of the 1970s through to the emergence of rave culture and the free party circuit.

Featuring interviews with legends such as Tonie Walsh, Kevin Barry, Greg Dowling, Terry Hooley, Stuart Clark, Sian, DJ Mek, Arveene and many more, it’s a fascinating journey through four decades of dance music, and perfect listening for a sunny bank holiday afternoon.

Crack open a cold one and crank it up… 🙂
