Seeing as yesterday marked Dave Angel‘s 54th birthday (happy birthday Dave!), this week’s Throwback Thursday features one of 909originals’ guilty pleasures.
Released on Billy Nasty’s Tortured Records imprint, Angel’s rework of Kamaflarge’s Discotamination, originally released on the Rumblestiltskin EP, is a delicious slice of loopy tech funk from one of the masters of the genre.
Kamaflarge, which released a brace of EPs on Tortured in its formative years, was a collaborative project featuring Nasty alongside former Sabres of Paradise Jagz Kooner and Gary Burns.
We first came across the track on Angel’s 39 Flavours Of Tech Funk mix, released on React the same year – one of the most enjoyable mix CDs of the late 90s – and it’s been a go-to in our record box ever since.
In terms of rocking the dancefloor, there’s just something about that bassline that keeps us hooked.
