Techno and house legends including Nina Kraviz, Sven Väth, Len Faki, Carl Craig, Secret Cinema, Dimitri and Dave Angel are among those set to play this year’s 909 Festival, which hits Amsterdam on Saturday May 30th.
Taking place at Amsterdamse Bos, close to Schiphol Airport, the festival has become renowned for putting together a well-balanced programme that celebrates pioneering artists as well as emerging talent, not to mention supporting local.
Other big names making their debut at this year’s festival include Vince Watson, Patrice Bäumel and Nuno Dos Santos, while up and coming names set to appear include Kevin de Vries, Jennifer Cardini, Mirella Kroes and Shinedoe.
Full lineup and ticket information can be found at 909.nl.
To top it all off, the stunning Amsterdamse Bos serves as the perfect backdrop. 909 Festival consists of three stages, several serene hangouts and a spacious, green field where visitors can grab a bite. All different areas are organically created using the forest’s natural characteristics, giving each space it’s very own vibe and identity.
The 909 Festival was developed to pay tribute to the Roland TR-909 Rhythm Composer, arguably the most important piece of equipment in dance music, which once put in the hands of artists from Detroit and Chicago, helped shape house and techno history.
Today, an original TR-909 will cost you a tidy sum – only 10,000 units were ever made – and few have the chance to experience the magic themselves.
Until now, that is.
To mark this year’s 909 Festival, the organisers have created an online version of the legendary drum machine, and are giving away a pair of tickets every week to those willing to take on the challenge and master this piece of kit. For more information, visit 909.nl/drumcomputer.
