On September 15 last, the Irish dance music industry was a sadder place with the news of the passing of Scott Macnaughton, who passed away suddenly at his home in Tarifa, Spain.
Scott, who was a regular at The Kitchen, Spirit and countless other venues, was one of the most likeable and hardworking characters on the Irish dance scene in the 90s and 2000s, as evidenced by the outpouring of goodwill on social media following news of his untimely death, at the age of just 43.
Now, some of his closest friends and colleagues have come together to host a special event – Scotty’s Big Night Out – a celebration of Scott’s life, featuring an enviable lineup of some of Irish dance music’s biggest names.
The event takes place at Ukiyo Dublin (please note new venue) on Friday 15 November, with all proceeds going to Scott’s son, Daniel.
Manning the ones and twos on the night will be Billy Scurry, Johnny Moy, Tonie Walsh, Hugh Scully, Shay Hannon, Mark McCabe, Arveene, Razor, Noel Phelan, Anthony Mooney and many more, for what promises to be both a memorable night and a fitting tribute.
Tickets are priced at €20 and are available from Ticketmaster (click here) and usual outlets. For those unable to make it but still wishing to contribute, a non-attendance option is also available.
As Scott embarks on a new journey, let’s see him off in style. Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís…
