This week saw the untimely passing of vocalist Kim English, one of the most iconic voices in house music, who worked with some of the biggest names in dance over a 25-year career, including Ten City, Francois K, Masters At Work, Mood II Swing and others.
Announcing her passing, Nervous Records, which worked with English throughout her career, noted that her discography “includes several songs that are widely recognised as all-time classics in the house music genre”.
One of these is undoubtedly Nite Life, written by Ten City’s Byron Burke and Byron Stingily, released in 1994, which received the remix treatment from an up-and-coming house producer, Armand van Helden, later the same year.
As house legend Danny Rampling said in a tweet earlier this week, when the news of English’s broke, “Another sad loss of a star of our scene gone too soon. RIP Kim English, thank you for the great music”. Hear hear.
