THROWBACK THURSDAY: Nomad – (I Wanna Give You) Devotion (Trouble’s Underground Mix) [1991]

With the passing of Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson earlier this week, the dance music fraternity lost a true pioneer – the founder of Kiss FM was instrumental in the formation of the London clubbing scene, not to mention the emerging warehouse rave movement.

As well as developing his own ‘Trouble Funk Sound’, Paul was also an accomplished remixer, lending his hand to cuts from Byron Stingly, Thelma Houston, Michael Rose, Junior Reid, and club classic (I Wanna Give You) Devotion by Nomad.

Released on Rumour Records in 1991, the Nomad ‎– (I Wanna Give You) Devotion Remixes EP features two classic remixes, with Trouble’s Club Mix on the A-side, and Trouble’s Underground Mix on the flip.

The ‘Underground’ mix is an altogether more mellow affair than the chart-topping original, with warm strings and shuffling drums (in keeping with the ‘baggy’ sound of the era), and is the perfect soundtrack to a drive home the morning after an all-night rave…

Preferably one that featured Paul on the decks as the sun came up.

RIP Paul ‘Trouble’ Anderson.
