THROWBACK THURSDAY: Armando – Land of Confusion [1987]
The late Armando Gallop was arguably the brightest star in the acid house firmament, with tracks such as 151, Downfall, 100% of Dissin’ You and Land of Confusion, which we have selected for this week’s Throwback Thursday.
Released on Westbrook Records in 1987, Land of Confusion is a classic example of lo-fi techno that proves just how devastating the Roland TB-303 can be when put in the hands of a true master.
As producer Kevin Starke told Chicago’s 5 Magazine a few years back, “I’ve never heard anyone put out an acid bassline like Armando did, and Land of Confusion is one of the best acid tracks ever made.
“There are a lot of guys that try to imitate his style, but I’ve never heard anyone put out a track with a 303 and make the kind of sounds that he made.”
Rest in peace Armando, and thanks for giving us devastating acid tracks such as this.
