THROWBACK THURSDAY: Egyptian Empire – The Horn Track [1991]

There are few one-hit wonders better than the absolute rave belter that is Egyptian Empire’s The Horn Track.

Released in 1991, initially on Fokus Recordings and then on FFRR, The Horn Track was the only track released by Tim Taylor, under the alias of Egyptian Empire (although the Missile Records head has had a myriad of alter egos over the years, including 1st Prodject, Acid Blood, Aurabora and as one half of The Pump Panel).

And what a release it was. Sampling elements of The Human League, Egyptian Lover, and with the iconic horn sample lifted by a track by post-punk band C Cat Trance, it’s one of the seminal rave cuts of the early 90s, arguably the finest period for dance music.

As one comment on the track’s YouTube page puts it, “There will never be a time like this ever again.”

With a soundtrack like this, we couldn’t agree more…
