SOMETHING FOR THE WEEKEND: David Holmes, BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix [December 1993]

Northern Ireland’s David Holmes is today perhaps better known for his soundtrack work – including Hunger, Oceans Eleven, Buffalo Soldiers and Out of Sight, among others – but back in the early 90s, he cut his teeth at techno nights such as Sugar Sweet and Shake Yer Brain in Belfast…

This mix, from December 1993, captures Holmes in ebullient form, starting off with glitch classics such as Plastikman’s Electrostatik, before going full on tech trance in the second hour with tracks by LSG and Acid Jesus.

This mix is also notable for including news bulletins, which disrupts the hypnotic flow of proceedings – thankfully these interruptions are no longer a feature of BBC Essential Mixes. Track listing can be found here.

[Kudos to E-Mix for the upload]
