This week would have marked John Peel‘s 78th birthday, and as well as breaking some of the most underground acts in rock, the legendary BBC radio DJ also had an appreciative ear for all things electronic.

This Plastikman ‘Peel Session‘ from 1994, recorded at the BBC’s Maida Vale studios, is a fine example of the late legend’s musical taste, interjected with the deadpan delivery for which he became so adored.

Richie Hawtin, the man behind the Plastikman moniker, would go on to bigger things, but for now, enjoy minimal techno at its finest, introduced by one of the legends of radio. Tracks include Pp001, Dubfunk, Helikoptor and Minak.
