Something For The Weekend: Acid pioneer Armando on Chicago radio [1987/88]…

The late Armando Gallop was one of the first Chicago-based musicians to see the potential of the Roland TB-303 as a means to create hypnotic, acid-soaked tracks that to this day retain their analog allure…

This mix, from Chicago’s WBMX, recorded in 1987 or 88, contains three of his finest works, Land of Confusion, Downfall and 151, amidst some of the squelchiest tracks of the era.

As with other sets taped off the radio, the quality isn’t perfect, but in this age of FLACs and MP3s you sort of miss the occasional pause in proceedings (at 23.50, for what we presume is the tape turning over) and the DJ imploring listeners to “put in their requests”…

RIP Armando… [Kudos to 5Chicago for the upload]
