ROUND 1, MATCH 5: Vengaboys – ‘Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!’ vs O-Zone – ‘Dragostea Din Tei’
The final tie of the weekend is one that could be close, as Vengaboys’ 1998 hit Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!! takes on O-Zone’s Dragostea Din Tei, the only Moldovan entry in this year’s competition.
Having laid the foundations with We Like To Party earlier the same year, Dutch act Vengaboys struck chart gold with Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!, going straight in at number one in the UK charts and hitting the top across Europe. O-Zone’s Dragostea Din Tei, meanwhile is the only track in the competition to have become a viral sensation at the time of release, as the ‘Numa Numa’ craze took hold back in the early 2000s.
