Two very different Eurodance hits go head-to-head in the next matchup, with Barbie Girl, a 1997 smash for Danish/Norwegian pop outfit Aqua, taking on N-Trance’s Set You Free, a 1995 hit for the UK group.
Reportedly inspired by a Danish exhibition on kitsch culture that featured Barbie dolls, Barbie Girl was a bona fide chart smash, while Set You Free, featuring singer Kelly Llorena, was initially released as a white label in 1992, before a re-release three years later saw it go top-ten across Europe.
